and the Rest of the FL Trip.....

2/22/2011  Tuesday     HEAVY FOG should clear by noon and climb to the 70's
I was called the "Eliptical Queen" by one of my fellow gym buddies when I was returning from my Morning Workout.  Makes it all worth while!  We shall start packing today:(

2/23/2011  Wednesday   Nice day to take in Margaritaville for lunch OUTSIDE.  We took some pics and video of the inside decor.  Really interesting!  "Spring Break" is starting to BLOOM in PCB.  We are seeing
"big tents" going up at restaurants .

2/24/2011  Thursday  Another nice  and sunny day!   We made our mark in the sand after our workouts. We decided to do some "touristy" things today. We started with a leisure walk around Pier Park and did a little shopping.   Hof Braus House for a beer and an "unbelievable pretzel".  They sell their pretzels by the ounce.  YUMMY!!   Also did a round at the Pirates Cove Mini Golf and had dinner at Dirty Dick's Crab House.  Wait til you see the Trinity Platter-it is HUGE!!!

2/25/2011  HEAVY FOG again-Humid and 68 at 8am.  HOT HOT HOT!!!!
We are seeing lounges by the cart fulls and cabinets with the cushions that will be rented up and down the whole PCB front!!!  Sure sign that the season is upon us!

2/26/2011  Saturday  Sunny and 70's
Destination- Mardi Gras in Destin at the European village at Harbour Walk.  BEADS!BEADS!BEADS!
I was given a simple mask by a passerby handing them out and I decided to wear my sunglasses on top of the mask.  Well, some Parade Goers asked if they could take my pic and said that I was the first person they had ever seen wearing the glasses over a mask.  We had fun and had accumulated such a collection of beads that we shared with a "young" family who appreciated the collection.

2/27/2011  Sunday  FOG ALL DAY!  mid 60's to low 70's
More packing and some fun "people watching" at Pier Park.

2/28/.2011  Monday   HOT HOT HOT!!!!!  and Sunny.  Also feeling a strong wind and reading a temp of 91 at one point while travelling.
We are off to St. Augustine to meet up with our friends Vivian and Jay.  We passed through  Bristol and Providence on our way to St. A.  Seeing a number of colleges and universities in Tallahassee.  We met up Viv and Jay and had a fun dinner at the A1A Pub which overlooked St George's St.

3/1/2011  Tuesday  Partly cloudy, windy and mid 60's
Our Jay and Vivian Taxi service picked us up and we decide to take the Old Town Trolley Tour of St. A. We had a great day and enjoyed the sites and flavors of St. A.  We really liked the quaintness of the city.

3/2/2011  Wednesday  Nice day
Destination for today is Hilton Head, SC
We are feeling a little sad when we cross over the border from FL to SC:(
We arrive and check out the new location.  The beach is really flat and the sand is packed down so you can ride bikes on the beach.  Kind of neat to see!

3/3/2011  Thursday  Very cloudy-55 and very strong winds!
Big Beach Walk and we took some interesting pics of the sand blowing!
Visited Sea Pines and Harbor Town

3/4/2011  Friday  Cloudy 55
Destination- Wrightsville Beach, NC just below Wilmington, NC
Not an ocean view BUT a Causeway view and it is gorgeous with a great sunset!!

3/5/2011  Saturday   Partly sunny 50 going to mid 60's
We walk the beach and do some "shelling".   We find the beach is similar to RI beaches.
We took a side trip to River Walk which is on the Cape Fear River in Wilmington.  We enjoyed the small town architecture, lunch and took some neat pics.
Also saw the USS Carolina.

3/6/2011  Sunday  Cloudy and 55
Destination RI or a spot close to home.
We leave at 8:30am and we drive into a very windy, rainy storm unknown to us. We are both feeling good about driving so we continue our trip. After 16 hours on the road and 15 hours of driving we stop in CT.
We are quite happy with temp which is about 50 and it is midnight!!!
We are ready to grab a good nights sleep and we vote "no" on the offering of a wake up call.  No surprise, right:)

3/7/2011  Monday   Partly sunny and 40ish
Destination- RI  and home base.  We are on the road by 12:30 after a really good breakfast at IHOP!
Definitely mixed feelings about returning home.   Really happy we can drive into our driveway and no "SNOW" sitings!!!!!

Panama City Beach continued...

2/12/2011  Saturday
The Diamonds 50's-60's was a fun show at the Gulf World Entertainment Center!

2/13/2011  Sunday
We did a walk around Pier Park-lots of good people watching seeing it is Sunday!  Took in some sun and noticing more people on the beach.  No swimmers-the water is still in the low 50's.  Everyone writes "SUPER BIG" in the sand while they are visiting.  We have it on our list of "things to do" before we leave.  Not sure if I mentioned that the beach sand is "squeaky" when you walk and drag your feet in it.  It is funny to hear when you are walking down the beach.
We are making plans to connect with our friends-Vivian & Jay (from Ashaway, RI) to meet up in St. Augustine at the end of the month.

2/14/2011  Monday
Nice day and taking in more "Vitiamin D".  The days are getting warmer!!!

2/15/2011  Tuesday
Ditto of yesterday!

2/162011  Wednesday  Sunny high 60's  no clouds and now wind  Water temp is 54
Perfect Beach Day at PCB!  First day we have actually been able to walk on the beach in "beach attire" and NO SHOES!!!!    We walked down to the Pier Park pier and saw a string of 24 small kites connected on one string flying!  What sight!!!  We were told that kiter is a local person who comes to the beach almost every day to fly his kites.  We will try to catch him again before we leave and take a pic or two!!Wish you were here!!!

2/17/2011  Thursday  Heavy fog  cool  50ish  going up to 70 and sunny
Spa Day for me and then we took in a late lunch in Seaside.

2/18/2011  Friday
We saw an "ultra light" and an increase in Beach Goers and Helicopter Sightseers.

2/19/2011  Saturday   Ditto another nice summer day!  Water is getting warmer and seeing more people venturing into the water.
Side trip to Apalachicola which is major player in the "oyster" world!  We have had our share of these oysters while we have been in FL so we thought we would go to the source.  YUM!  The town is verrrry smallll and mainly an "oyster town".   The big attraction is the combo Apalachicola Restaurant/Store/Inn.  This stop gives a whole new meaning to "ONE STOP SHOPPING"!  No room at the Inn seeing there is the "Taste of Florida" Festival tomorrow!!!  We also travelled over a 9 mile bridge to St George, FL (not Bermuda) and found a really remote and upscale beach community.  Once you cross the bridge you wont be planning to go back until your vaca is over.

2/20/2011  Sunday  Hazy Hot and not Humid  **** four star Beach Day  The water is 64 degrees!!
We walked to our other pier which is County Pier and about a six mile round trip.  Today we layed on the beach - too HOT to lay on the deck.  Gorgeous!!  The "Spring Break" traffic is picking up and we are seeing families who area also here for the week.  Seeing some "paddleboarders" in the water!!

2/21/2011  Monday  Just another BEACH DAY  and lovin it!!

Slide show is in the works!!!

Saturday, February 12, 2011

2/1/2011 Tuesday

We continued from Naples to Panama City Beach.  Partly sunn and 60ish.  As we near PCB we are not seeing our typical Flordia scenery.  HMMMM  Lots of red dirt roads, Baptist churches everyone and a gas station/food mart now and then.  We cross over the Hathaway Bridge that connects to the PCB area and things are slowly looking promising.  Again, our condo is on the ocean side with a great view and a mainstay-a deck!  We got ourselves settled and then ventured around the area to get a feel for the area.

2/2/2011  Wednesday  Cloudy  50ish
Masterbath  is on the front side of our condo so we dont have our usual "ocean view".  Boy are we spoiled!!! The beaches are gorgeous here and very different from what we have seen so far.  They are very white, like powder soft, no seaweed and very odd to see NO SEASHELLS except for a few that pinky size!  The water is emerald green and today it is a little rough seeing it is breezy.  There is a Simon Shopping Mall that is a short walk from our condo and we shall check it out in the days to come.  It is HUGE and looks like a great place to window shop!

2/3/2011  Thursday   Cloudy  mid 50's Breezy
We tried to sit at the pool out of the wind.

2/4/2011  Friday  Cool, showers mid 40's - low 50's
We went for a ride over to Destin, Seaside, Watercolor and Aly's Beach.   These areas are all on the coast and have some very ultra homes.  Quite a site to see! We will take some pics when we return to the Harbourwalk in Destin in a few weeks for a Mardi Gras Parade and festivities.

2/5/2011 Saturday   Finally a mid 50's to low 60's day and SUNNY!
Great day on the deck and we were able to see our "first" sunset in PCB!

2/6/2011  Sunday  Cloudy  50
Time to get back on track.  I go the the really nice gym and JB is heading to the heated pool for his lap swimming even though it is mid 30's!!!

2/7/2011  Monday  Cool day  40ish

2/8/2011  Tuesday  Another cloud and cool day  40ish
We stopped into the Breakers for a cocktail and snack and ended up staying for a mixed "Las Vegas" style
(for the not so LV price ofonly $10) Elvis and others show.  It was a nice surprise and a lot fun!!

2/9/2011  Wednesday  Repeat weather of yesterday
We saw fireworks from our slider which was our first indication that the "spring breakers" are starting to trickle in.

2/10/2011 Thursday  Partly cloudy high 40's
We purchased some essentials at Target-a Kickboard (for JB) and a noodle for me to use in the pool.  Ocean is a little to cold to jump in.  We found a hairdresser for me and we shall find a Barber Shop for JB.

2/11/10  Saturday  SUNNY  mid 50's
You guessed it we are on the deck for some Vitamin D!!  We have tickets for a Fifties type show at Gulf World and it looks like it should be entertaining.

Yeah all caught up for now!!!!  Thanks for viewing our BLOG!!!   Pics are on the way!!

We're Back

Well you know how the saying goes "whatever happens in Key West stays in Key West".  Oh I guess that also applies to other places too.  We shall attempt to give a brief overview of the days that have gone by.  Here we go!!
1/26/2011  Wednesday
Not a tanning day so we head for Duval St. for JB to grab a haircut and I found me the Headlines Nail Salon.  We picked up some fun Key West tee shirts.  JB came across DJ's Clamshack while waiting for me to finish my appt and turns out they are the "only" restaurant that has Ipswich Fried Clams and the "BEST" New England Clam Chowder that we have had in a long time!!!!
1/27/2011  Thursday
60's and Sunny
We had a very tiring day!!!  We did close 3 hours of walking, spent a few hours in the sun on our deck and had some of "Fishbusters Market Fresh" scallops for lunch.  We walked over to the world famous Key West Butterfly Museum and it was quite a site!!  We were told to enter quickly (so the butterflies do not escape) and to EXIT extra fast and to make sure no butterflies travel out the exit with us.  If you are lucky and a butterfly lands on you, it will bring you luck!  Well we both "got lucky".  We finished the day with a special dinner at the Shor Restaurant in the Hyatt hotel.  Really nice treat!!  Joe had a local fish called "tilefish" which is a white fish and delicious.  I had a Salmon dish which was also excellent!!!  Pics will follow....
1/28/2011  Friday
Open Day (no special plans) and our last Full Day in KW
We had some great pizza on Duval St. at the Upper Crust Pizzeria - nothing fancy but delicious!
Visited some of the local shops and took in some of the KW color.
Also watched a sunset at the Harborfront and met a very nice couple who were from Calgary and Maylasia (Fei and Scott).
We finished our day with a stop at "Salute'" for dinner.
1/29/2011 Saturday
Time to leave and we are not ready to go-We have really enjoyed our stay in KW.  We definitely would like to revisit KW and we will plan to be "dropped in" the next time we visit.  Although the long drive in was well worth the trip, we think flying in would be a great "Plan B" !!!
So we leave "kicking and screaming" for our next Road Trip and our next stop is Naples.  Our condo in Panama City Beach will be available on Feb 1 so we will be sleeping over three nights.  We are planning to spend two in Naples and one in Lake City.  Ask us about the "shake and bake elevator".
1/30/2011 Sunday
While we were in Naples we decided to do a side trip to Marco Island.  The beaches here are beautiful-just like powder!!
1/31/2011  Monday
Next stop Lake City.  We stayed at a Comfort Inn which had only been open for a year!!  Very nice!
This seems to be an up and coming area but not very developed as yet.  However, a Sonny's restaurant was in view our hotel so we couldnt resist making another visit.  This time we came away with some of their delicious roasted chicken which we enjoyed as a sandwich on Tuesday.

To be continued..........

The Latest from the B's

1/21/2011  Friday
Off to Key West (KW) Stopover in Deerfield Beach and revisited Ocean's Restaurant and walked The Pier which only costs you a dollar and a popular place to fish.   If you know your fish, the catch of the day were  Barjacks.
1/22/2011  Saturday
70's partly SUNNY!!  Continued trip in KW.  Slow highways but well worth it!  Our "studio" is on the ocean and what a view!!! What a find (quiet and private yet a nice walk to downtown and the waterfront)  iff this is studio living, we are in!  Within our view is Higgs Beach and the White Street Pier.  Lots of activity in view from our newly renovated deck.  Cruise ships, a few skidoos some parasailing. ....
1/23/2011  Sunday
Mid 60's Sunny and Breezy!  We took in the sun and then ventured out later in the day for a walk downtown and we passed by the "Southernmost 0 Mile Mark" of US 1 (at this point you are only 90 miles from Cuba).  We will be taking our pics from here before our stay is over.   Took a Bicycle Cab ride back.  What a day!!
1/24/2011  Monday
We walked ALL over from Downtown-Historic-Harborfront areas.  Lots of cruise ships are in port today!
We also took in the "Conch Train Tour" which gave us a good sense of the area  and all the hightlights!
1/25/2011 Tuesday
Mid 60's early on and cloudy so we drove around and picked up some fresh oysters, shrimp, scallops and stone crabs.  We will be enjoying some of the freshest catch of the area for a few days to come!!!  The afternoon weather was nicer and we did our walk to the Harborfront (no ships today-so the streets are rather quiet but very nice) and walked Duval Street (main street).  We had our Stone Crabs on the deck for an app (so delicious) and JB made his Fettucini Alfredo.  Great day!!

Disney Update

1/19/2011  Wednesday
We spent some time in Epcot.  We all did Soarin 2 times and Tam, Dave, G did Test Track 3 times and I sat out the 3rd round.  Also did Progress Tomorrowland.  We did our usual time poolside and then we travelled over to Universal Studios for dinner at the NBA restaurant. What an experience and the Celtics game was on while we finished dinner! Tam took some great pics of Gio in and outside.  Lots to tell about our time that we spent here.  Oh yes, we did stop by Cinnabon for Cinnabuns for dessert back at our hotel!!
1/20/2011  Thursday
We revisited Hollywood Studios for another helping of Tower of Terror!  Tam, G and JB went on it twice and Tam and G went on one more time with the extra Fast Passes.  We also took  in the Drew Carey show and the Back Lot Tour. JB and I did some packing for our next move to Key West tomorrow and then we did our pool visit - although it was cloudy but 70's-still not a bad deal!!!  Dinner was at the Wildernes Lodge -one of the newer Disney resorts- and lots of fun!!!  They have interactive waitstaff that are real characters and the food is too good!!!

1/17/2011 Monday

Happy Birthday Anna! Our Italian villa overlooks a view of the Disney and Epcot.  We are seeing fireworks every night from our balcony!!  No WIFI yesterday-up and running today.  Sunday's weather was Partly sunny and 74!!  We visited Downtown Disney and JB, Gio and myself went up in the Character Hot Air Balloon ride.  What a view!  The three of us also rented powe-r boats at the Capt'n Jack Mariner and Gio gave me a tour of the marina and lake.  Gio had a great time doing "donuts" in the water.  We did dinner at the Cape May Buffet on the Boardwalk property.  Delicious as always!!
Slow start today-we are having a fast moving storm so we shall wait for the weather to pass before we venture out.

On the road again-destination Orlando!

1/15/2011  Saturday
We packed in most of our stuff on Friday and enjoyed our last sunset on LBK.  We had a late dinner at Moore's Snow Crab Restaurant right on LBK and it was delicious!!!  The Snow Crabs were awesome!!!!   Nothing fancy-just great food and a waterview!!!
We shall hit the road after lunch to join Dave, Tam and Gio in Orlando later today!  Only a three hour drive or less to Olando so we are planning to take in some of the sites on our drive over.

Wednesday 1/12/2011

We found a Macy's at the Westfield Town Square Mall and I was able to purchase some "cooler weather" clothing "just in case" it is still cool in Orlando when we meet up with Tammy, Dave and Gio.  We ate a late lunch at an outdoor restaurant on Ocean Blvd in Siesta Key that had a heat lamp which was perfect and had a delicious  "grouper sandwich".  We made a phone call and connected with the Ranone's (neighbors of Tam, Dave in Gio in North Providence) who have a beautifull condo on Beach Rd in Siesta Key overlooking Siesta Key Beach!!!!   We planned to only stop in and say "hi".  Well, they are great entertainers and we didnt leave their home until 3 hours later after watchng a beautiful sunset from their lanai!!!  What a treat!

1/13/2011 Thursday

The highlight of our day was a "sunset walk on LBK Beach" and we finished it sitting outside of the Club House on the raised deck bench watching the sun set!  What a beauty!!

Wednesday, January 12, 2011

Monday 1/10/11 & Tuesday 1/11/11

Monday low 70's, sunny and very breezy.  We did venture out to do our walk and also some "good housekeeping".  We shall connect with a realtor to view some poperties in Naples on Tuesday.

Tuesday mid 60's Sarasota and sunny.  Naples (1 1/2 hours south) mid to high 70's and sunny!! Whew this was the hottest weather we have experienced with no complaints here!  We viewed some very nice communities and condos that we will keep in "our future search" file to consider for the down the road.

Sunday, January 9, 2011

1/9/2011 Sunday

We ventured down the coast to Gasparilla Island to an area called Boca Grande.  We had to cross over a causeway and paid a $5 toll to see an area that had the feel of the Bahamas but VERY secluded! Oh did I mention we were offered a map of the island and as it turned out it was a good thing we took one.  We were able to find the Eagle Grille at the Charlotte Harbor and we were two of six people who were in the restaurant. JB talked to the host who mentioned that the owners of the Cafe Zelda on Thames Street in Newport were very involved with setting up the new format for the restaurant.  What are the chances of picking a place to eat that we would have something in common with one of the waitstaff? Well,we can cross off our "must see" list.  Very nice scenery but not much going on-at least not during this time of the year.  For you Seinfeld fans we did have a siteing of Boca Vista on our drive to Boca Grande-it is alive and well!

1/8/2011 Saturday

Another VBD!! Our usual am with a few hours on the beach!  We checked out "Thunder on the Bay" which  turned out to be a very mini Daytona bike event downtown but worth taking a look.  Lots of bikes!!!!

Friday, January 7, 2011

1//6/11 Thursday

Another VBD!  We walked the beach, 65 - light wind-full sun so we spent 3 hours on the beach, drove up to Anna Marie at the end of LBK and ended the day on the deck with another colorful sunset!!!   Also saw Ginny's dolphins just after the sun set!  Thunder on the Bay this weekend-Sarasota's version of Bike Week.  Hmmm?

Thursday, January 6, 2011

Catching Up Tuesday 1/4, Wednesday 1/5 and Thursday (today) 1/6

Tues-Too cool and cloudy for the Beach.  We packed a lunch and headed over the Causeway bridge that leads into Sarasota.  We sat and ate our lunch with a great waterview and then walked over the scenic bridge.  We drove into Sarasota and enjoyed a cocktail outside at Marina Jack's (yes turning into a favoirte spot right on the Bay) Another great sunset and an "Eat In Dinner of Rock Lobster Tails and Shrimp"!
Wed-  Definitely looking like a beach day!!!We did our am routine (breakfast, walk on the beach, JB's swim in the heated pool) and then it was lunch and 3 hours of sun on LBK beach about 73 and no breeze!!!  Cocktails, sunset and dinner at home base.
Thurs- Rainy start so we took care of some emails, phone calls and made a reservation for Deerfield Bch to stay overnight when we travel to Key West on the 21st after our stay with Tammy, Dave and Gio in Orlando.  We made contact with our realtor in Naples and plan to look at some properties there in the next few days.  We ventured over to St. Armands Circle for coffee at Kilwin's (a great spot to get the best ice cream, fudge and other goodies).  As usual we couldnt pass Publix (the local grocery store) without stopping in.  We enjoyed another colorful sunset (weather cleared out just in time).

Monday, January 3, 2011

1/2/2011 Sunday and 1/3/2011 Monday

We wanted to share this beautiful sunset from Lee's balcony!!!!
Yesterday (Sunday) we went to Mass at "our church" right across the street from Lee's condo.  It was kind of windy (not a sit on the beach day) so we went to St. Armands Circle and picked up a coffee and watched all the sites which is always fun.  We ate burgers at "Coconuts" then took a ride out to Siesta Key.  The beaches in this area are like powder (white and really soft sand).  We toured around a little then met up with a realtor and made some plans to see a few properties today.  Still looking for "the place" that will be best for us to settle.  We did our beach/street walk and had dinner on the balcony and watched a rather cloudy sunset in 70 degree temps!  All in all today was another nice day in FLA.

Saturday, January 1, 2011

New Years Eve and New Year's Day

We spent our New Year's Eve in Sarasota with dinner at Mattison's (an ALL outdoor restaurant} and 75 degree weather!!!  Downtown was doing a "Dropping of the Pineapple" and a New Year's Eve Block Party that started at 2pm and was ending at 2am. This event drew about 20,000 visitors and was lots of  fun including music, food and dancing in the streets!  We made a lot of new friends who coindently were transplants from MA and RI.  A good time was had by all and we even hung in to see the "pineapple drop"!BIG NIGHT OUT!!!
So how was your New Years Eve?  HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone!!!
